It’s that time of the year again - the time when everyone is reminiscing over the past year and looking forward to the next. It’s a time when we should be thinking about what worked well in 2017 and what didn’t, so we can take the things that worked into the next year and take what didn’t work well… and throw it out the window.
Hopefully, 2017 was your best year yet and you’re looking towards 2018 all twinkly eyed with excitement. But if you’re like a lot of us, you feel like there is room for improvement. A good place to start when thinking about New Year’s Resolutions, are your small daily habits that take place in your home. If you think about it, small daily habits are the easiest place to start. They are small enough to tackle and if practiced on a regular basis, can shape each of your days to be good days and eventually shape all of 2018 to be a great one. Below are 10 ideas to start practicing each day (or most days) to begin shaping 2018 to be your happiest year yet.
1. Wake up and go to bed early
There is no better way to start your day then having gotten plenty of sleep and feeling fresh to take on your day.
2. Make your bed every morning
As much fun as making the bed is at the crack of dawn every morning (wink, wink) how good is it to crawl into a freshly made bed every night??
3. Drink a big glass of water as soon as you wake up
Drinking water in the morning is a great way to start your day - It will fire up your metabolism, hydrate you, flush out toxins in the body, and help jumpstart your brain. Ready to take on the day!
4. Work out until you sweat
The benefits of working out and getting your sweat on are way too many to count. Plus, exercise releases endorphins which make you happier - so why not?
5. Put on clothes that make you feel good - even if just at home for the day
This one seems silly at first but if you feel good in what you’re wearing, you tend to have a better day all around. Wear clothes that make you happy.
6. Make a plan for your day - set your intention
Whether you do this the night before or include it in your morning routine, setting an intention for your day helps you to stay on track and accomplish all the things you need to get done.
7. Spend an hour on your One thing
Whatever it is, make time for the one thing that makes you happy - be it reading a good book, practicing your hobby or even taking a bubble bath. It’s important to spend time doing things that make you happy.
8. Go outside for a walk
Being outside clears your mind. It’s a good reset to get outside at some point in the day. Just be sure to bundle up if you’re going out any time soon!
9. Declutter or clean one item every day
Decluttering your apartment is therapeutic. A cluttered space creates frustrations which leads to drained energy. We accumulate things so easily and really don’t need most of it - decluttering one thing every day will allow you to focus your time and energy on things other than a messy space.
10. Practice gratitude
Set aside time each day to reflect on what you are thankful for. It’s the little things in life that make life worth living, it’s important to not take those things for granted. Bonus: Being thankful reduces feelings of envy and allows us to bounce back from stress easier leading to inumerable health benefits.
